Tropes Themes Things Stuff!
About seven years ago, I finally noticed that certain themes stories from my cw students would come in waves—for example, I’d get several stories about people getting engaged in one batch of stories, or a bunch of stories about serial killers in another. I wondered if I could find any patterns, so I started keeping track. While I read, I’d jot down whatever elements stood out to me—plot elements, character types, whatever.
I still haven’t found any patterns, but I have been endlessly fascinated by what my students want to write about. This is the most recently updated list.
